The science and business centre Heidelberg is not only home to Germany’s oldest university, but also numerous SMEs and listed companies. Around 60% of jobs are in knowledge-intensive services and industrial high technology. Together with the local university hospital, the University of Excellence, where numerous Nobel Prize winners have conducted research and worked, is the biggest employer in the city on the Neckar.
